Painting

Quality is Key for Your Exterior House

In Michigan, we experience all seasons annually. We carefully consider UV exposure, moisture, and temperature when applying your paint, ensuring the right product for the job.

You have options for giving your house a certain look: exterior wood stains in a solid color or painting with exterior paint. Note that when painting vinyl, we recommend using vinyl-safe colors from the Sherwin Williams booklet. Some darker colors can be more complex due to the vinyl wrapping process, which may cause the vinyl to protrude when using black colorants.

Painting Process Overview

Preparation is crucial for the longevity of paint. Properly prepped, your paint should endure up to 10 years. While products like deck stains may require annual upkeep, exterior vinyl or wood siding paint can last a decade. Our meticulous process ensures top quality:

1. We repair old wood and remove existing paint by scraping and power washing.

2. We caulk exposed joints.

3. We use high-quality products for repairs and painting.

4. We clean up any mess made from the jobsite.

5. Upon completion, we provide a small touch-up kit for future maintenance needs.

  • We offer the following exterior surfaces: vinyl siding, wood siding, aluminum siding, brick siding, doors, garages, power washing services, soffit painting, trims, and shadows.

  • If you're painting on wood and want to highlight the wood grains, Woodscapes is your best choice. It offers a semi to solid finish. For exterior paint, depending on conditions and budget, consider products like SuperPaint, Latitude, Duration, and Emerald, which perform well. For metal or exterior doors, we recommend Emerald Urethane. It self-levels, is durable against scuffs, and acts like an oil-based paint despite being water-based.

  • Before staining a deck, it's important to consider certain conditions. Brand new decks less than 6 months old are not recommended for staining as the wood is still fresh and retains moisture, preventing proper absorption of the stain. If these conditions aren't met, the stain may only sit on the surface rather than penetrating the wood.

In Michigan, deck staining frequency can vary widely due to the region's extreme weather conditions. Water-based stains typically require annual reapplication, while oil-based stains like Armstrong & Clark and Rymar can last up to 3 years. Michigan's harsh weather compared to warmer southern climates accelerates wear and fading of stain products over time.
